Hongkong: A Tourist-friendly country

Of Bad Luck and Getting Lost
Panic ruled our entire morning. I met boyfie at the airport but had to go through traffic and a lot of cars. It’s funny how fate plays tricks on you. If you’re in a hurry, cars come at you almost everywhere but if you’re not, no car seems to be in sight. tsk tsk
Luckily, I got there just in time.
We stopped over Manila for about 2 hours to wait for our flight to HK. With nothing to do, we got out our ever trusted cam to do some vain shots. Much to our surprise, our camera BROKE. Wow! <insert sarcasm> Fate was playing tricks on us. That was for sure.
We had to make do with our mobile phone which would explain the poor quality images. hehe
Havin’ lunch at Manila Internation Airport
We got lost: We didn’t know which way to go for the bus station. We prolly went up and down the escalator three times to figure out the way. With the size of HK airport, anyone would get lost.
We got lost again: Taking the bus was easy. Knowing where to get off was tricky. We got off the bus way way farther than our should-be stop. So we had to walk and figure out which way would take us to our hotel.
Trusting only our instincts, we tried to find our hotel
Our Hotel: We booked our hotel via Hostelworld.com and found a good deal. Venetian Hostel is on the 13th floor of the famous Mirador Mansion right in the heart of Tsim Sha Tsui. The building was old and not that clean but the hostel proved to be otherwise. The rooms are new, clean and appealing. Yes, it’s small but for a hostel, it was nice.
After leaving our bags, we went out and walked the streets of HongKong.
We got lost yet again: MTR stations are a confusing lot! We didn’t know which exits to go to so we ended up moving in circles just to find the right MTR station.
While scouring the busy streets of Mongkok, we unknowingly found one of HongKong’s top dessert places: Hui Lau Shan. They are known for their Mango with Glutinous Rice Balls Desserts. Boyfie is a big fan of mangoes so we just couldn’t go home without trying one out.
This is how it looks like up close. The glutinous rice balls are somewhere in there, hidden by the thick and yummy mango bits and juices. The white thing in the middle is vanilla ice cream. This is one dessert you all should try out when you’re in HongKong.
Our first night was fun despite getting lost and all. Goodnight Hongkong.
