A is for Alegria:
The Calming simplicity
Monday was a holiday so we decided to get out of town and travel. It’s been a while since we did. We decided to go south, to the calm roads of Alegria. We caught the bus at the South Bus Terminal (which had pretty big improvements. Hooray!) and it was a three looong hour ride.
We finally got to our destination: Costa de Leticia.
Costa de Leticia is located right across Alegria’s Elementary School. We found this resort online and it promised of serenity, calmness and beauty. It didn’t fail us. However, we didn’t like the idea of having to wait 1-2 hours for our food and our room.
It wasn’t a good experience and we were about to throw a fit but controlled ourselves. We just wanted to make the most out of our vacay and besides, the place was great.
The walkway that leads to their pool.
Costa de Leticia’s infinity pool – which was the primary reason why we traveled all the way there.
Costa de Leticia’s Kiddie Pool which is connected to the main pool.
Costa de Leticia’s Jacuzzi
Costa de Leticia’s Aqua Massager. The water that comes from the shower and right into your skin works like a massage.
Costa de Leticia Rooms and Deck. The room just below the deck is the indoor restaurant.
The room was spacious, clean and it had an amazing bathroom complete with a tub. The place was just right for a relaxing place outside the city. We were curious as to why our room was called Mountain View room and this is what we saw:
Yup, there is a view of the mountains alright – right outside our small bathroom window. (rock)
After swimming, we watched the sun set from the deck. Its beauty simply takes your breath away.

On the next day, the front desk personnels boasted of their hot and cold springs which we were excited to see. With swimming attires ready, towel checked and everything in place, we were on the go. We thought of bringing our toys along but decided not to at the last moment. And it was only right that we didn’t.
Our ride for the tour and yes, boyfie had to ride in that position so we can all fit. (rock)
This is Alegria’s hot spring (check out the steam). Its size is only that featured in the pic, no larger than the smallest kiddie inflatable pool. But it’s said to be an effective cure for several diseases.
This is Alegria’s cold spring. The water is said to be potable hence the number of people coming here to get water.
We were laughing at ourselves because we were so ready to go swimming in their springs that we even had our towel ready only to be welcomed with this. We don’t mean it in a bad way. We just found our expectations and preparations funny. ^_^
In this trip, we learned that Alegria got it’s name a long time ago when it used to be the only place abundant of pottable water (their cold spring). Alegria came from “alegre” which means happy. The place got its name because a lot of people from different places came to gather at the cold spring thus creating a happy environment.
Visiting Alegria and Costa de Leticia was truly a great kick-off in preparation for summer ’10. Water, sun and sea, you haven’t seen the last of us yet.
